Jessica’s 2020 Book Goal- January 21st

January seems to be flying by this year, as opposed to years past when it has gone slow. I am continuing on with my 30 book goal for the year! I am proud of my progress as I have continued to chip away at the goal. Last week, I didn’t get to read as much as I wanted, but I still made a little progress!
January List:
The World’s Largest Man: A Memoir – Harrison Scott Key
The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F- Mark Manson
Little Fires Everywhere- Celeste Ng
Where’d You Go, Bernadette- Maria Semple
Where The Crawdads Sing- Delia Owens
Where’d You Go Bernadette- Maria Semple
I started the month reading “The World’s Largest Man” about Harrison Scott Key’s father, and I continued on with this book about the relationship between a daughter and her parents. I loved this book, it was sweet, mysterious and funny. B was an adorable character and Bernadette is the woman we all could possibly be after a professional heartbreak. This book has it’s moments of sadness, but it was an easy read and I finished it in only a few days. Give it a read if you have a chance and an opening on your “up next” list.
Where the Crawdads Sing- Delia Owens
This was the Kokomo Howard County Public Library “Howard County Reads” book for 2019 and I am kicking myself for not getting to it sooner, especially when I missed an opportunity to meet Delia Owens. Won’t be making that mistake next year! Of all the books I have read this year, this one might be my favorite. It gives you a lot to think about.  When you wonder about Kya, you ask yourself if you could survive her situation? The characters that Owens introduces throughout the book are some of my favorites. Jumpin’, Mabel, Tate, Sunday Justice, Jacob the Bailiff… all who showed extreme kindness to someone who wasn’t like them. The book has it’s fair share of turds too, and it will keep you guessing until the end. Read it immediately!

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without me- Mindy Kaling
