County Lowers from Red Status to Orange Status, Vaccination Clinic Open

KOKOMO, INEffective Immediately, The Howard County Board of Commissioners will change from Red to Orange status under the state’s COVID 19 metrics due to a significant decrease in the spread of COVID-19 among Howard County residents.

Howard County Commissioner Paul Wyman states, “Last month we placed Howard County in the RED status due to a huge surge in COVID 19 Cases.  At that time the 10-day average for new cases of COVID-19 in our community was 110 new cases per day.  As of today, our 10-day average has decreased to 51 new COVID-19 cases per day. Obviously, this is a great trend for our community, however there still more work to be done.”

The Howard County Board of Commissioners will sign an ordinance today that continues the Local Disaster Emergency Declaration until March 1, 2021, but decreases the status from Red to Orange.

The Commissioners are encouraging everyone to continue to wear your mask, wash your hands and remember social distancing is important.

“We are so thankful for the way that our community continues to rise to this challenge. Many people are doing extraordinary things and it’s making a difference.” said Wyman.

In addition, the Howard County Health Department has begun operating the COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic at the Kokomo Event Center located at 1500 North Reed Road, Kokomo, IN.  The vaccination site is by appointment only.  To schedule your vaccination appointment, please visit OurShot.in.gov or call 211 to schedule an appointment.
