Summer Activity Opportunities

Festivals, fairs, camping, road trips whatever the activity Midwest summers are the perfect time to get out and explore!

There are so many great opportunities to explore during a Midwest summer. Locally you can start out by hitting the trails around Kokomo. The Kokomo Parks and Recreation Department beautifully maintains trails in Jackson Morrow Park, Highland Park Indian Trails, the Industrial Heritage Trail and more! Stay up to date with everything at cityofkokomo.org/departments/parks_and_recreation.

Mid-summer you can take in the Howard County 4H Fair in Greentown July 12-17. Not only will the North American Midway return for yet another year, but you can see Grandpa Cratchet in the pioneer village, the Miss Howard County pageant in the grandstands and of course all the hard work showcased from 4H members. Get all the details at https://www.howardcofair.com/.

Towards the end of summer, maybe it’s time to venture out and find a cool place to relax for the weekend. Indiana’s first National Park, Indiana Dunes National Park, offers just that! Walk the many trails, get a workout by hiking up a dune, and then cool off with a dip in Lake Michigan. See everything Indiana DUnes National Park has to offer at https://www.nps.gov/indu/index.htm.

As with everything, know before you go! Access, amenities, and hours are all subject to change with COVID-19 guidelines.
