Incredibles 2 Movie Review *Spoiler Free*

Pixar’s 2004 film “The Incredibles” is my favorite movie. It is in my opinion the perfect movie. There’s a relatable story, jokes for people of all ages, animation that stands the test of time and a solid pacing that keeps the movie entertaining throughout. It took 14 years but we finally have a sequel. Was it worth the wait? Or did it let down fans everywhere?

Disclaimer: If you have epilepsy or any sort of photo-sensitivity this is not the movie for you. There’s a full scene of nonstop flashing lights (about 10 to 15 seconds in length) and flashing lights is a pretty common place occurrence in the film.

Alright let’s get into the review, did “Incredibles 2” live up to the hype? Absolutely… in some ways. Was it as good as the first? No way, but it’s difficult for sequels to be as good as the original. For a sequel “Incredibles 2” is a really solid one. The animation is incredible! The fight scenes are extremely captivating and the story is engaging. However, unlike the first, the pacing was slow moving at times and the story focused less on the family and more about Mrs. Incredible.

The first film focused primarily on Bob Parr, Mr. Incredible, and his inability to cope with a world without super heroes. When he goes off on his own to get back into the hero game, he gets into trouble and his family is called in to rescue him. One of the main morals of the first being, when family sticks together they can accomplish anything. In the sequel, Mrs. Incredible becomes the center focus, which is awesome and we get to see the limits of her powers. My only issue is that the other super heroes really take a back seat in the movie. The family is divided once again, which takes the wind out of the lesson from the original. While Helen Parr is out fighting crime, Bob is home with the kids learning math, changing diapers and dealing with teenage drama.

Maybe I’m being too harsh on the film, but as I said the original is my favorite movie. Nitpicking should probably be expected. If you enjoyed the first “Incredibles” and are looking for a good family movie to see with the kids, this is absolutely the movie for you.

My Rating: B+
