The Kokomo Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy is now accepting applications for
its upcoming class. Members of the public who are interested in attending the eight (8)-week session
may obtain an application at the Kokomo Police Department, 100 South Union Street, Kokomo, front
lobby display area or www.cityofkokomo.org (under the latest news link). There is also a link on the
Kokomo Police Department Facebook page. All applications are to be returned to the Kokomo
Police Department by February 24, 2019. Applicants who meet the requirements will receive an
acceptance letter.
The purpose of the Citizens Police Academy is to increase the public’s understanding of law
enforcement duties and responsibilities. There is no charge for the classes which are designed to give
citizens information relating to the training police officers are provided. The eight sessions are held
once per week on Wednesdays. The classes are the in the City Building Council Chambers, 100
South Union Street, Kokomo, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The first class will start on Wednesday,
March 6, 2019. The classes will not meet March 27, 2019 and graduation is scheduled for May 1,
2019.
The Citizens Police Academy will accept 25 applicants. Applicants must be a minimum of 18-
years-old with no felony record or criminal arrests within a three-year period of the March 6, 2019
start date. Applicants are subject to a background check.
Applicants must attend seven out of eight sessions to graduate. Those who graduate will receive a
certificate and become eligible to become a member of the Kokomo Police Department’s Citizens
Police Academy Alumni Association.
