There is a simple test in which you can do to check whether the pavement is too hot for your pet’s paws by doing the “seven-second test”. Simply touch the asphalt with your hand. If you can’t keep it there for 7 seconds without it hurting, then it’s too hot for your pet.

Veterinarians recommend you start paying attention to asphalt temperature when the air is 77°.

When it’s 77° outside, the asphalt will be close to 125°.

Plus dogs are bound to get dehydrated quicker in excessive heat, so be sure to bring a lot of water with you.
