Ben’s Entertainment Blog: Jordan Peele’s “Us” Review (No Spoilers)

Spring time is here and with it back to back incredible movies. I’m going to just put this up here at the top: “Us” is the best movie I’ve seen in a long time. It’s just spectacular. You have to see it. What makes it spectacular you ask? Well without giving anything away, let me break it down for you.

“Us” is about a normal middle class family who has gone to their summer getaway home looking for a vacation. The Dad (Gabe) has purchased a boat that he’s excited to spend time on with his family. The teenager is looking forward to keeping her face buried in her phone for the whole trip (typical teens). The young boy has a Chewbacca mask to play with and the mom is can’t wait to have a relaxing time on the couch. Little did they know that another version of themselves is coming to kill them! All of that can be gathered from the trailer (see, I told you I wouldn’t spoil it for you).

What I love about this movie is how intentional everything feels. There isn’t any wasted space in the movie for silly jokes or just to make conversation between the characters. Every sentence is said with purpose. If you’re someone who likes to figure out the ending before you get there, my only advice is to pay attention to everything that happens. I know that sounds like dumb advice since you’re paying to watch the movie. Of course you’re going to pay attention. What I mean is, you never know what could potentially be important. Keep an eye on everything, and don’t forget the small stuff!

The movie does a great job of answering the audiences most pressing questions, but it leaves just enough open ended that it leaves you wanting more. You will leave thinking to yourself, but what happens after? How did it all begin? How did Dwayne Johnson survive that plane crash? Okay… that last one didn’t actually happen in the movie. It’s tough writing this without spoiling anything, but you really have to experience it for yourself. Go to the movies as soon as possible and watch “Us.” You will not be disappointed. And if you are… well… at least it was worth it for the popcorn.

Here’s the trailer. I give this movie a 5 out of 5 stars!
