Growing up I would always make sure that I was done with everything that I needed to get done in time for TGIF on ABC. Friday nights were my night. They had the best lineup of shows including Boy Meets World and my all time favorite- Sabrina The Teenage Witch. I was OBSESSED. It was the perfect mix of spooky and cute. Also I was in love with Harvey Kinkle, JUST SAYING!
When I heard that they were going to be making a remake of the show, I basically freaked out. They had some big shoes to fill. That’s for sure!
In the very slim amount of down time I had this weekend I decided to start watching the new season on Netflix! It stars Kiernan Shipka who some of you may know from Mad Men! She had the look down, but I was a little hesitant on the plot. Could they really pull this off? Well, I’m about 3 episodes in.
Here are my thoughts so far:
- It’s dark. It’s really not a show for the faint of heart. Or probably kids for that matter. It deals with some darker themes than the original Sabrina did.
- They kept all the same character names as the original! 2 points to them for this. They even have Salem the cat. Although he doesn’t make sarcastic witty comments and that kind of makes me a little sad. Maybe this changes later in the season? Who knows.
- Harvey Kinkle has all of the boyish charm that the ACTUAL Harvey Kinkle had. Also in a pretty exciting moment- I realized that I have actually SEEN him in real life as the actor that plays him is the lead singer for the band R5!
- Aunt Hilda and Zelda were much cooler in the original series. I don’t like that they made both of her aunts basically… evil.
