Peru Man Injured in Cass County Crash

Cass County – Thursday morning, at approximately 9:25 a.m., officers from the Indiana State Police and Cass County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 24 east of County Road 700 East, which injured a Peru man.

Preliminary investigation by Master Trooper Ron Whitney revealed that 43-year old Christopher R. Zvers, was driving a 2008 Toyota Tacoma westbound on U.S. 24. The Toyota hit a patch of black ice, crossed over the median, into the eastbound lanes of U.S. 24. The Toyota was then struck in the rear bumper by an eastbound 2005 Peterbilt semi-tractor, pulling a box trailer. After impact, the Toyota traveled into a ditch on the south side of U.S. 24. The Peterbilt came to rest in the roadway.

Zvers was transported by ambulance to Dukes Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening head and hip injuries. The driver of the semi was not injured. Both drivers were wearing seat belts, which Master Trooper Whitney believes prevented more serious injuries.

The load in the semi-trailer was not damaged during the crash.

Master Trooper Whitney was assisted at the crash scene by Master Motor Carrier Inspector Andy Ashbrook, Master Trooper Earl McCullough, the Logansport Fire Department, and Cass County EMS.
