Warren Man Injured in Miami County Crash
Miami County – Thursday afternoon, at approximately 3:05 p.m., officers from the Indiana State Police and Miami County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 31 at State Road 18, which injured a Warren, IN, man.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Ron Fisher revealed that Joseph D. Reigle, 51, Sioux Falls, SD, was driving a 2003 New Mar Mountain Aire class A motor home southbound on U.S. 31. The motor home collided with an eastbound 1999 Jeep Commander, driven by Wendell Jackson, 73, Warren, IN, at the intersection of State Road 18. After impact, the motor home crossed the median and came to rest off the road, on the east side U.S. 31. The Jeep traveled off the west side of U.S. 31.
Jackson was air lifted from the scene by Life Line Helicopter. He was transported to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis with life threatening head and internal injuries. Reigle was not injured. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.
This crash is still under investigation. The intersection at U.S. 31 and State Road 18 is controlled by a traffic light in all directions. Officers are still interviewing eyewitnesses and analyzing crash data to determine which vehicle had the right of way. Neither alcohol nor illegal drug use is believed to be a contributing factor in this crash.
