Holiday Shopping Safety Tips
The busy holiday shopping season is upon us. As Hoosiers head to the malls and local stores, criminals are on the lookout for easy targets. Being a victim of a crime is no Christmas present. The Indiana State Police offers shoppers a few tips to make them less vulnerable to a criminal seeking an easy theft.
Before Shopping
· Carry small amounts of cash.
· Carry keys, credit cards and cash separate from each other.
· Wear conservative, comfortable clothing with minimal jewelry.
· If you have access to a cell phone, carry it.
· While driving, keep your doors locked and windows up.

While Shopping
· If you carry a purse, keep it close to your body and always have it zipped.
· Park in a well lit area close to where you plan to shop.
· Always be aware of your surroundings.
· Hold packages firmly and avoid leaving them unattended.
· Keep personal belongings and purchased items out of view when left in your vehicle.
· Never leave children unattended while shopping.
After Shopping
· Leave the stores before closing time; it is safer to leave with other people.
· Check the interior of your car before entering.
· When returning to your vehicle, carry your keys in your hand and be ready to enter your vehicle immediately.
