Boulevard Closes Next Monday For Corridor Construction
INDOT Will Build $11 Million Interchange At C.R. 100S Site
KOKOMO, Ind.— The Indiana Department of Transportation will close County Road 100 South—known as East Boulevard—between C.R. 200E and C.R. 300E at the future U.S. 31 Corridor interchange site on or after Monday, November 30. Motorists will be detoured along C.R. 200E to U.S. 35/ S.R. 22 to C.R. 300E, then back to C.R. 100S. The closure is expected to remain in effect until late next fall.
This winter, Primco of Ft. Wayne, the state’s prime contractor for Contract II construction, will build a large box culvert at the Canon Goyer Ditch and begin work on the East Boulevard bridge over the U.S. 31 Corridor route. Drainage structures will also be installed under C.R. 100S. These activities require a complete closure of the East Boulevard roadway.
Contract II construction includes 1.95 miles of U.S. 31 Corridor mainline and work on a diamond interchange at East Boulevard/C.R. 200E. The two travel lanes in each direction will 12 feet wide with 11-foot shoulders along outside lanes and four 4-foot shoulders along inside lanes. A 200-foot bridge at Kokomo Creek will be known as the Charlie Cropper Memorial Bridge.
Primco was awarded the work based on its low bid of $11,273,863.
A $345 million Major Moves project, the U.S. 31 Corridor at Kokomo will require six years to build. It extends from 2 miles south of State Road 26 in Tipton County to one mile north of U.S. Highway 35 in Howard County. Designed as a 13-mile “freeway”, the investment is intended to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion and enhance safety for individual motorists and commercial carriers.
